EDIT: Decided to sell this after all, the original and prints of it are available here.

A mixed media painting; a watercolor background and Copic marker Whales with black multiliner and white gelpen for the highlights.

I used about a dozen different reference images, for the whales and for various details such as the eyes. I decided to use watercolor for the background because it would cost me a bit too much marker ink :P
And I used several different colored Copics on the background to smooth things out, I remember Cool Shadow and the Blender but there were others as well ;)

Time taken: about 6 hours give or take. The background took up most time.
Watercolors and Copic markers on A4 Bristol board.

Mixed feelings about this one, the watercolor could have been so much better... Oh well, just a reason to keep practising. I might redo this soon and then use watercolor paper instead of the Bristol.
Whales turned very well, really pleased with them. And large-scale whales are much easier and faster to color than sketchcard sized whales, much less fiddly :)

What do you think of my new signature/watermark? This also has an almost invisible watermark as well. Which I think is better than the obtrusive dA watermark ;)

Watercolour on illustration board is a bear to work with. If you try a piece of hot press 300# watercolour paper, around $12 in USA, I think you will LOVE it. ☺

I have been trying to find hot press as a matter of fact, but it is very hard to find here. Most store don't carry it and if they do, it's terribly expensive.
I'm looking at foreign stores and eBay now :)

I recommend Blick Art Supply or Jerry's Artarama. See if there is shipping to your area. ☺ Sometimes you can find 300# hot press in ten packs. BFK Rives heavy weight paper may also be of interest to you. Rives is usually used by printmakers, I have used it for drawing and it is all around great paper.
