Yes, I have caved as well...
I know there are dozens of journals being written about the hundred year "anniversary" of the sinking of the ocean liner. But I wanted to do my own, complete with a small feature of my favorite Titanic related artwork from dA. (I have also done some Titanic related art, but because I'm so very much behind uploading you will probably not see it for a couple weeks...)
You will notice that I haven't featured any artwork based upon the 1997 film (and the majority of artwork uploaded here is from that film). Why? Because most of that artwork is based on the romance of Jack and Rose. And while I really like the film, that's not what this "anniversary" is about. It's about remembering a terrible tragedy with a huge loss of life.
I have always been interested in Titanic. I remember the local library had three books about the ship and at one point I got a letter from the library, asking if I would please return the three books because other people wanted to read them as well! I brought them in every time they had to be returned but checked them right back out again. I also remember the breaking news of Bob Ballard finding the wreck of "Titanic" in 1985, four kilometres below sea level. And seeing the first images and footage of the wreck. I remember being disappointed; Titanic looked nothing like her former self, overgrown and rusted and more than anything extremely damaged.
Here's some of my favorite art in remembrance of RMS Titanic and all those who lost their life when she sank on April 15th, 1912.
